저는 늘 “어떻게 하면 긴 머리에 레이어를 더 예쁘게 넣을 수 있을까?“라는 고민을 자주 해요.
오늘은 제가 평소에 가장 많이 사용하는 테크닉 중 하나인
하이 레이어드 컷을 제 방식대로 정리해서 남겨보려고 합니다.
혹시라도 이 커트를 연습하고 계신 디자이너분들에게 도움이 되었으면 합니다.
하이 레이어드 컷을 좋아하는 이유
이 스타일은 머리 위쪽에서부터 층을 내기 때문에,
탑 볼륨이 살아 있고, 움직임도 자연스럽게 생겨요.
특히 디스커넥션을 적절히 활용하면,
과하지 않은 질감과 무게감 있는 실루엣이 동시에 나와요.
롱 헤어 고객님들에게 “가볍지만 휑하지 않은 스타일”을 추천할 때 자주 사용합니다.
제 커트 방식 (Step by Step)
1. 섹션 나누기

저는 CTMP → 이어 포인트, TGMP → 이어 백 기준으로 나눠요.

섹션 나누는 기준은 항상 깔끔하게, 그리고 한 번 더 확인해요.
2. 첫 번째 커트

목선을 기준으로 첫 가이드를 만들고,

90도로 당겨 커트하면서 앞쪽 볼륨을 살립니다.

항상 정확한 빗질과 중앙 기준의 오버디렉션을 지키려고 합니다.
3. 디스커넥션

다음 섹션은 앞보다 3cm 길게, 연결하지 않고 분리시켜요.

이렇게 하면 앞이 너무 가볍게 뜨는 걸 막을 수 있어요.
4. 탑 커트

골든 포인트에서 시작해서,

핑거 포지션을 아웃으로 바꿔 아래와 자연스럽게 연결합니다.

이때 볼륨과 쉐입을 동시에 설계할 수 있어요.
5. 아웃라인
-
저는 후대각 V라인을 자주 씁니다.

앞쪽이 가볍게 올라가면서도, 전체 무게 중심은 유지할 수 있어서요.
6. 마무리

드라이 후, 딥 포인팅과 슬라이싱으로 마무리합니다.

여기서 전체 흐름이 완성되는 느낌이에요.

My Take on the High Layered Cut

Hi, I’m Daehyuk Kwak.
I’ve always been curious about how to add beautiful, structured layers to long hair
without making it feel too thin or overly styled.
Today, I’d like to share how I approach the High Layered Cut —
one of my most frequently used techniques at the salon.
If you’re a fellow stylist trying this cut, I hope my notes help in some way.
Why I love this cut
The high layered cut starts from the top,
giving volume at the crown and soft natural movement.
When you combine this with disconnection,
you get texture without sacrificing weight — a very balanced look.
Perfect for clients who want lightness without looking too airy.
My personal method
1. Sectioning

I divide the sections using CTMP to Ear Point, and TGMP to Ear Back.

Clean sectioning is everything. I double-check every line.
2. First Cut
-
I set my guide along the neckline,

Pull hair at 90°, cutting parallel from the center.

Over-direction at 2cm intervals keeps volume and symmetry.
3. Disconnection

The second subsection is cut 3cm longer than the guide, disconnected.

This avoids over-layering in the front.
4. Top Cut

I start from the golden point,

Use outward finger position to blend downward.

This helps build shape and volume together.
5. Outline
-
I often design a reverse diagonal V-line in the front.

Keeps the silhouette polished but soft.
6. Finishing

After drying, I refine the line with deep point cutting and slicing.

That’s where the cut comes to life.
